Cheesy Onion Garlic Bread

This is a bread we had for dinner Monday evening along with lasagna and a salad. It would also be really good with soup or stew.

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
4 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 cups sugar
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/3 cup butter
1 onion, chopped
1 1/2 cups milk
1 egg

Saute chopped onion in butter until onion is translucent.

In large bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and sugar.

In separate bowl whisk together milk and egg. Stir in onion and butter.

Add wet ingredients to dry and stir just until combined.

Pour into greased 9 in. x 5 in. Loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 55-65 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan.
